Friday’s Finances

This is my favorite part of the new line-up. ‘What a geek!’, you say. I know, I can’t help it. I want to help everyone reach financial freedom, the frugal way. I know how difficult it can be. As cheap as I am, we were spending a ton of money on nothing. When my husband and I were working long hours, we would rather have time than money. Now, it’s the other way around. If I had planned just a little better, we’d have both.

Today, I am going to give everyone that would like to take a step towards financial freedom a project. This is not a difficult, nor a time consuming project. It is an eye opening one. I would like you to take a few minutes to figure your expenses. In the next few days, we will go over simple methods to reduce these expenses.

I have set up two very easy to follow worksheets. The first will detail outflow, or the money you pay for bills and to creditors each month. The second will detail everyday household expenses. There is a section for pre-determined everyday use items, and another that is blank. In that blank section, I would like you to think of 15 items you purchase on a regular basis. These can be specific grocery items, household items, or even a stop at the convenience store or coffee shop. To determine your yearly expense, you must first calculate your weekly or monthly expense. If it is weekly, multiply by 52 to determine the yearly, if it is monthly, simply multiply by 12.

Worksheet #1

Worksheet #2

I hope the results will surprise you. When I did this, I had no idea we spent over $625 a year on bacon alone! I will share my original results with you in an upcoming post.

These worksheets look to be very interesting. It will be a real eye opener when I get it all filled out.
