I’ve kept posting to a minimum so that I can focus on getting this site in order. I’m *almost* there, barring another tragedy. Let me rephrase that.. mishap due to stupidity. Yes folks, I’ll admit it. Sometimes I’m just stupid. It’s good to know that I’m not alone in this! It took two people two days to put that pretty little large box on the side. We had great instructions, judging from the comments supplied on the tutorial page.
See, sometimes you can read just one little word incorrectly and it can completely block your thought processed for days. For me, this word was ‘Reload’. That’s it. Sounds harmless, right? Not when it’s followed by ‘your homepage’. I assumed that meant the homepage of my site. So over and over again, I did these steps, only to go back to the techie page to see that those steps had resorted back to their original position. What was I doing wrong? After three grueling days, it hit me. Reload doesn’t mean the homepage, it means to hit that handy dandy little F5 key. Refresh. Duh! Some people word things differently and even with an English degree, I sometimes only speak redneck.
Guess how long it took to line it all out after I hit the magical F5? Less than 3 seconds. After I combined that with the error of a missing ‘s’ that took 3 hours to figure out, I have now changed my tone from ‘stupid’ to ‘way too mentally exhausted to really care’. Somehow the latter allows you to work with a more open mind, thus allowing you to catch little mistakes a bit sooner.
This, my friends, is why you hire a professional. Or at least ask for a teeny bit of help at the first onset of defeat. Trust me, you’ll wish you had. At least I am now prepared to handle anything!
